How much does it cost to rent a car in Muscat for one month? What kind of documentation do you need?

Avoid Budget- they saddled me with all sorts of unexpected, and unagreed to, expense when it was time for me to leave the country. They nailed me on the way out, so there was no real way to object or appeal.

What were the fees they added after you turned the car back in? It seems they would hit you when you turned the car back in.

I returned it to the airport on the way out of the country. We had agreed to one price for the car including an extra driver. I paid that price every month without objection from them. We had the car for nine months and when we left they charged for nine months for the extra driver, who was supposed to have been included in the price. It doubled what I owed.

Worse, they put on the extra charges after I left the country (we had agreed to discuss it but the charges just appeared on my card).

If it is on a credit card, you can always fight it. I have yet to lose a fight with a company related to use of my credit card. Of course, it's not as easy if you are out of the country where your card comes from...

Yes, I spent all summer trying to fight it. I did not prevail- mostly for being out of country (both the US, where my credit card was from, and Oman), but Budget has agreed to refund 1/2 of the over charge, though it hasn't made it to my account. The dispute has been going on since July.

Yeah, they sold a good customer down the river for a pittance, in the large corporate scheme of things.

Live and learn, and don't use Budget. (I've heard horror stories from other people, too.)

Same thing happened to me. Rented for a year with Thrifty. No issues all year long. Returned the car before summer holiday and got hit 2 weeks later with $1100 US on my credit card. Filed a fraudulent transaction with my bank, and three weeks ago got the results of their investigation. All was credited back to me. Even when you rent a car, they cannot put incidental charges on you afterwords without agreeing.

Good advice may be to do an inspection with the rental company when you drop it off and be sure to have the company sign off on the condition before you leave the premises - on your copy of the papers. That is standard here in the US, and should protect you - with your credit card company - if they try a late additional charge.

True; I forgot to mention that I did have them sign the original rental agreement saying no dues, all fees paid.
