You could study up and learn it so that you can do your own taxes, one month. Then next month there would be changes and new regulations and you would have to find out about the new stuff and figure out how it applies to you. And the following month again, and so on. Keeping up with the changes and updates is a full-time job. And thats why its better to leave it to your accountant.

Thanks for all the answers and help, but I should clarify a bit. I don't want to do my own taxes, I just want to know what is going on, or what I even need to do to begin with. I hate being in the dark about things like this.

Are you registered with immigration as an independent teacher? Then youll have to go Hacienda (Mexican IRS office) to register as well and you will be given a RFC (tax code). Having done both those things, youll want to ask around for a reputable accountant who, in your first meeting, will sit down with you to explain what taxes you are required to pay, what invoices you should get for deductions, and how to go about getting invoices in your name to give to clients.

Your accountant can help you with that, too. S/he can guide you as to where to go to find the Hacienda office where you register and get your RFC and how to get the whole thing started.

Some inappropriate postings have been deleted.
