Is this tested for at any stage during the work visa/work permit process? Any info out there would help.

Well.

When I went to get my health certificate done in Cho Ray hospital HCMC (as suggested by some helpful members of this board) they gave me 2 options. One with the HIV check and one without.

The one with was 700k ish and the one without was 550k ish. I took the 700k version, but I didn't apply for my work permit in HCMC, so I don't know which one you are required to get for work permit applications there (or anywhere else for that matter).

Presumably, as Brent Black says 'yes' and most members here work in HCMC, we can infer that you need to choose the 700k-with-HIV-check to satisfy work permit requirements in HCMC.

On a side note - Health certificates for work permits are by no means standardised across the country.

my town - 3,500,000VND (involved HIV check)
Nha Trang aprox - 2,500,000VND (involved HIV check)
Da Nang - My friend had told me but I've forgotten - something around the 1mil mark.
Cho Ray HCMC - 700k/550k (as mentioned already of course)

In addition to the prices being different, the tests involved were also different.

Others may share different experiences and my figures all approximate; however, this information is based on seeing completed health certificates in these places.

Many things are confusing here.

Good luck, and you'll probably get some type of solid info on here sooner or later.

Conditions (mostly pay) is appallingly low in Thailand and Cambodia.

A lot of the pay in Thailand is the same as it was 10+ years ago.

Cambodia is the bottom end of the market. Wages are net, $10 usd per hour, and 2 years ago the authorities implemented a "teacher's tax" of 10%. This make the wage, $9 usd per hour.

If I had to go back and teach in Thailand or Camobodia I'd return to the west and try to get a real job, even with the current financial and economic problems taking place in the West.

I got mine done in Thailand because I was holidaying there and there was no requirement for a HIV test. In fact it was a very rudimentary test.

I will try to find out the government requirements for you
