Hi there
When reading this thread, I started to wonder if we are all in the same country. Everyone seems to have a different story and most of them seem devoid of any truth, or to be more exact, rather different to my experiences! I have been here for a number of years now and I will inform you of my experiences regarding banking and transfering of money out of China. I have been teaching at the same University and when I first arrived here my FAO helped me open an account at the local Construction Bank of China, who issued me with an ATM card and a bank book!
I have travel extensively throughout China and have always been able to draw money via ATM's in every city that I have visited and from most ATM's. Yes, there is a small fee charged when I used the card in another province, but is is almost nothing. I send money home every month and have no problem exchanging RMB into dollars, as much as I want.
I go to the Bank of China where I have opened a foreign currency account. They give me the dollars which I then deposit into the BOC's account. Then I fill in the transfer form and give it together with the foreign currency account and within 24 hours the money is back home. Sure, it is a little pricy, but it is fast and convienant. So where you come on all this crap you talk about, only you will know!
And yes, I know the actual rules governing how much you can exchange and blah blah blah.... and how every province or district is different and blah blah blah.......So if you can't do what I do then get a job in a place where you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU have chosen to work in a big city with all the western pleasures, so don't bitch when the restrictions and regulations are enforced, come to the smaller cities where anything can be done depending on who you know.
By the way, I have also recently bought a motorbike and have a official license for the bike and for myself. |
