hi guys,

i've been told by a prospective employer that i need to register for RFC and IMSS before they'll take my application any further. my spanish isn't that great and i'm kind of overwhelmed by mexican bureaucracy, so i was wondering if any of you could advise me how to go about registering for these things.

any help or advice would be much appreciated!

thanks,

dino

Do you already have your FM3, or is this your first job in Mexico? If you do not have it, I don't think you will be able to register with IMSS.

The RFC I can understand, as they want to pay you by receipts. This requires permission from immigration to work independently, then you need to take your revised FM3 to an Hacienda office (Tax office) (you will need to make an appointment online) to receive your cdula.

IMSS, I can't understand, because if they don't offer it, it is only your business whether you have it or not.

If you want to continue with this application, I suggest you hook up with someone bilingual to search the appropriate internet pages and help you with the visits to the various offices. This whole process will take many weeks; I don't know if your prospective employer can wait that long.

Before you can get an RFC you have to get a CURP, which you will only be issued once you have permission to work. Is the employer not willing to sponsor you for a visa? If not, then you can apply for an independent FM3, which allows you to work for anyone you choose. There is no need to register with IMSS unless they are going to be paying for it, but you cant do that until you have an FM3 either. Has this company hired foreigners before? It doesnt like it. It is not a dificult process, but you will need someone bi-lingual to help you fill out the paperwork, as well as take you to SAT to get your RFC, which you should get the same day you apply. In the case of the RFC I would highly recommend taking the extra time and going to an office outside of Mexico City, much faster, and far fewer lines/people. It can be a couple of month wait in Mexico City for an appointment, if they are even giving them out at all.
