My wife might be starting a new job at an international school in Hanoi next year and so I'm starting to see what's available for me there.

I've done all sorts in Korea over the last 6 years or so. Kindy to public schools, university and everything in between. At the moment I'm doing corporate and government classes, interviews, some consulting, etc.

I'll have completed my MA TESOL by next month, and I have 80 hours' TEFL cert from 2003.

If you were in my shoes, what would you be doing to fully utilize your experience/quals in Vietnam for the first time?

Try emailing RMIT Uni (HCMC and Hanoi). Seriously though, Vietnam is more about lifestyle than career, if you want to fully utilize whatever it is you've perfected during your travails you may want to consider the PRC.

Thanks haller - why do you suggest RMIT?

I understand what you mean about lifestyle vs career. PRC isn't an option this year though.

What makes you think PRC is the best career move?

if you have an MA TESOL I would not come to Vietnam.

Try the Middle East.

I know you are married, but you are wasting your MA TESOlL, here.

Financially, and the few schools that are organized well enough.

As an aside- Most local ESL teachers in Vietnam have an MA TESOL-but they can't speak English. (Perfect example was a MA TESOL teacher I know in Can Tho whose professor in English was unable or unwilling to concede that students were allowed to speak in the class-room.)

The original poster indicated a strong possibility of comimg to Vietnam, so I for one am not prepared to discourage him by saying he should go to the Middle East, Pakistan or Disneyland.
If coming to Vietnam is his bag- so be it-and the MA TESOL will be of use, but keep in mind they come in Corn Flakes packets here when they are LOCALLY issued. I am sure a foreign one will carry considerably more clout than the local one.
Sure it wont mean a huge difference financially, but it WILL make a difference to the fresh off the boat Johnny with a great attitude and no quals.
