I've become interested in CIEE (the exchange organization for North Americans) and I've done some research on these forums (thank you, those of you that helped) and I'm pretty sure it's legitimate.

I'd like to know if one of you has participated in the CIEE Teach in Spain program?

I'd like to hear about your experience.

I'm sure that I want to apply. I can't do it this year but the next year I'm planning on applying.

I'd like to hear from people that are knowledgeable about the program: Honestly, what are my chances of being accepted (in your opinion)?

I've read about the program, and of course looked at their website. They try to place as many people as possible, I realize, but I'm not sure about the ratio of applicants to jobs.

I have a BA degree in Spanish, which I speak on a native level, but I'm a native speaker of English. I studied abroad in Mexico as an undergraduate, and I recently earned my Trinity TESOL Certificate.

Thanks, if you can help!!

Sara, forgive me - I can't actually help in this case but I wanted to post anyway...

I have heard in the past that the applicants for this program far exceed the required numbers BUT your command of Spanish should help you stand above many of them.

What I actually wanted to say is that I respect your trying to do the thing legally and not being nasty to those of us who write about the difficulties. It's NOT impossible - but it is pretty rare to land an exceptional situation - and I know, because I'm one of the exceptions (not in Spain, but Netherlands - in many ways even tougher!).

Keep trying. It's unfortunately not true that 'where there's a will, there's a way,' but it's certainly worth it to keep your eyes open for any possible option.

You might also ask Naturegirl if the Spanish uni through which she did her MA TESL/TEFL ( I think it's FUNIBAR) has an on-site program. If you signed up for a master's study, I guess the student visa would apply to you - and with an MA from a Spanish uni, you might have a chance at getting an exceptional visa as well, ultimately, allowing you to work in Spain on the grounds that you have specialist quals....

But isn't your husband from somewhere in Europe? Just wondering.

I can't tell you how many times I've cried over this, out of frustration... the difficulties make me angry, crazy angry. But getting worked up won't help... I don't wanna give up... there's a reason I'm a Slytherin, after all Smile

I really appreciate that you're trying to help me... thanks... I guess... I'll ask Naturegirl... I don't know her but I'll find her Thanks!!

I went through FUNIBER, which has a consortium with la uni de Jaen. You might try contacting them. The programme I did was completely distance though.
