Just curious if anyone has ever had this happen to them.
I received the bill for the taxes (pay in 4 periods or 1 lump sum).
Each payment was roughly 25,000 or so. I had paid the first 2, when suddenly I get an "updated" version from the city office saying that my last 2 payments have jumped to 55,000~ without any reasonable explanation.
Also, after receiving this updated notice on my taxes, I moved. I went to my local office to update my information about where I was living. They told me they would send out a new health insurance bill from my new office, so not to pay the old one (roughly 10,000). I was expecting to get the same bill, just updated to the new office; however, I got a bill of 16,000.
Now I thought that both of these were dependent on the previous years income, so i didn't think it was possible for them to change? Anyone ever have this happen to them? Any recommendations aside from going to talk to the tax and health insurance section of my city office? |

What type of health insurance plan are you on -- kokumin kenko hoken or shakai hoken?
Your ward office should be able to give you a satisfactory explanation for an increase of two times your payments. There is more here than meets the eye.

Wait. First you say 25,000, and now you say 10,000. Clear things up for us here. |

I think you've misread, Glenski.
I'm pretty sure he's saying that his last 2 residence tax installments have increased from 25,000 to 55,000 and that his health insurance payments have increased from 10,000 to 16,000 (I'm assuming per month). |

As seklarwia said, the first part was resident taxes and then health insurance.
I'm currently on kokumin hoken.
I'll head to the office today and see what explanation they can give. |

Yeah, it looks like I misread. Let us know what you find.
If memory serves, my resident taxes rose steeply recently, too. Can't get around that. |

So I talked to the tax branch of my old city office.
They said that the company I had worked for in 2008-2009 (left March 2009) had handed in their reports late. Because of that, they had to amend their original findings. So they added on the 60,000 to my last 2 installments...
I didn't talk to the health insurance branch, but I'm sure that they'd give me the same story.
I don't have vast knowledge of these kinds of things, but sadly it sounds like it makes sense.
What I don't understand is this... I had a friend who worked with me at that company (Company A), but he made more money than I did. I changed to Company B in April 2009 and got a slight increase in salary, but his salary at Company A was still higher than mine at B. Yet his residential tax and health insurance is lower than mine?? That boggles my mind. |

Health insurance premiums are calculated on more than the basis of your last year's salary. Other factors include the location of your home, number of dependents, your age (over 40, and you pay more), etc. |

The exact same shit happened to me. Paid the first two months of health insurance, got an "adjustment" bill for those two months shortly after, and they sent me the rest of the year with payments increased by a few thousand each month. Bloody pain in the ass. |
