Totally off the track of this thrilling documentary on ESL teachers in Henan, Nigerians (and certain other African countries) are no longer acceptable in Henan as Foreign teachers.
I wonder if Dave's posters will be next? |

| would you care to elaborate on that? are the reasons professional, or of a more racist nature? |

Lack of English skills (I have several that are friends, but I find it difficult to understand what they say. sorry but it is the truth) Some schools hire them because they are cheaper, but sometimes the native language is not even English
They are staying too long. The province feels that they are coming to escape problems in their own country (wouldn't apply to any of us I am sure) ..this is the main reason
I would say overall, there reasons are valid, and not racist in origins. I now of several schools that do have black American teachers, and here in my current armpit of China (truly) one of the five teachers is black, from UK
PS ... I am not claiming that they aren't racist, mind you |

| I feel that most of the posts in this thread should be PMs. They are too personal, and too silly. There was another thread going for awhile about lesson plans--try looking at it. I have been teaching off and on for a total of 15 years since 1968--and I never go into a classroom without a lesson plan. I have taught elementary school, junior high, high school and university. It doesn't matter what the age or the level of the student is--you are either a professional educator, or you belong in a different line of work. I have canned people for not preparing classes thoroughly, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! |
