I doubt constant harping and negative comments about language schools and low wages is going to change a newbie's plans.

Good point. I'm wasting too much time. I'm going to lay low for a while, join MEXTESOL, buy some books on teaching EFL, focus on professional development and look for a job. Laughing Serious. Wink

I love living in Mexico, and I love working with my current group of private students, but I don't always love how certain aspects of the English teaching profession here, you know, shady schools, low wages, job insecurity, and so on. So sometimes I find myself agreeing with those who are happy living and working in Mexico, and sometimes I find myself nodding my head in agreement with those who are very critical of, well, everything having to do with TEFL in this country. In my opinion, the unpleasant tone of some of the threads on this forum comes from those posters who are vehemently on one side or the other and express themselves in black and white terms. This may have to do with our individual temperaments and our very different experiences in Mexico and most likely the expectations we had before setting foot in this place.

Locked and a few members on this thread should interpret this warning as a very final one for their actions on this thread.
