For all you EFL teachers out there in Mexico City, I wanted to invite you to the Mexico City MEXTESOL chapter Christmas posada.
Here's the link... scroll down to the bottom;
http://www.mextesol.org.mx/
Its going to be on December 4th at Colegio Erasmo de Rotterdam, 3 cuadras del estacion MIGUEL ANGEL DE QUEVADO en linea 3.
Its a good opportunity to network, see what MEXTESOL is about, attend a plenary and generally have a good time.
All this for just $40. Not bad, eh?
So..... will you go??? |

Joined MEXTESOL last month!!
If I have time I'll go and take good notes. Is this thing close to Insurgentes Sur? I can't find line 3 on the metrobus site. |

Metro Insurgentes (Dir. Pantitlan) - change at Balderas > (Dir. Universidad) > Miguel Angel de Quevedo
or
Chilpancingo > (dir. Pantitlan) > Change at Centro Mdico > (dir. Universidad) > Miguel Angel de Quevedo
or you can walk (or take a pesero) from La Bombilla Metrobs station.

You could get off the Metrobus at Chilpancingo where there is a Metro station (also called Chilpancingo). Take the metro in direction Pantitlan and get off at the next station (Centro Mdico). Transfer to Line 3 and take the metro in direction Universidad. It's 6 stops to M.A. de Quevedo. |

And I can't think of a better reason for NOT living in DF. If something is this complicated, I choose 'pass'.
Traveling Europe by train is easier than negotiating DF.

You feel it most acutely when getting into a taxi and YOU are the one giving directions along the way. Having 1200 different streets named Benito Juarez doesn't help. |

Could I take the metrobus to chilpancinco (or another station on Insurgentes) and just take a taxi? I'm not familiar with the subway here. Only taxis and the beautiful metrobus. |

Maybe it's because I grew up in a place with virtually no public transportation, but I love the metro. I don't understand why you would not familiarize yourself with it. Usually when people tell me--take a taxi, in Mexico City, I'm like can't I take the metro? What notamiss describe is not anywhere as complicated as the line changes I made in Japan. But I will say I don't think station navigation is as easy as it could be. I mean in Japan, I could not READ the language, but I was usually able to find the exit I wanted. Where as in Mexico city, I usually go out the wrong side, then have trouble trying to find my way back through the station to the exit on that will put me outside in the place I want to be. And if you miss a stop, I find you can't always get out and get over to the other platform to return in the opposite direction without paying again. Something you can easily do in Japan, Korea, and Chile. Oh and in Japan I could always hear the name of the next stop annouced on the loud speaker, so if the trains were packed and you couldn't see the signs, you didn't have to count stops. In Mexico City (which I admit I haven't visited in two years) they don't seem to announce the stops |
