Dear Sheikh N Bake,

I use Vuze.com for downloading TV shows and movies. I had the exact same problem that you are having. I found out that if you open Hotspot Shield and then open Vuze, your searches will be 1000% better. Hotspot will trick the web servers in KSA by giving a false ISP address from outside the Kingdom.

Thanks, Icon. I'll try it!

...

Well, I tried. In Saudi you can't long on to any site that offers Hotspot Shield for download; they're blocked.

I have never heard of Hotmail being BLOCKED. Difficult to access maybe. Many websites are blocked but I do not think Hotmail, Yahoo etc would be blocked en masse.

It has happened to me (getting the blocked website page) in the past, though I can't remember if with hotmail or some other innocent site. It is just a glitch and seems to happen a couple to a few times a year with various normally accessible sites. As I said, just a glitch.

Sheikh N Bake,

All you have to do is to go to: www.download.cnet.com and you can download the software without worrying about that site being block.

That "abbreviated" URL brings up a Can't find server notice on a Macbook using Safari within the Kingdom.

Try these for Windows:
http://download.cnet.com/windows/
http://download.cnet.com/windows/?tag=hdr;snav

or these for Mac:
http://download.cnet.com/mac/
http://download.cnet.com/mac/?tag=hdr;snav

or, yanni, at Ground Zero: http://www.cnet.com/

Don't you think that posting that information here might get cnet.com banned?

I don't know if it's true but I was told that any website that registers too many hits is autromatically blocked by the ksa authorities. The assumption is that if it's so popular it must be naughty. Eventually they'll get around to unblocking hotmail- it has happened to me as well in the past.

It is not true.

But it isn't blocked! As other posters have said, it's sometimes temporarily down for whatever reason, but that is very different from saying the government is blocking it. I used hotmail this morning without a problem.

I found a better one. It pays to schmooze with techie people outside of EFL. Servers everywhere now think my computer is in the USA, and NOTHING is blocked, nor, as far as I can tell, will it ever be. Cost is $55-85 a year depending on how many US and international proxy servers you want access to. If interested anyone can PM me.

Better still, get a TOR which is free and it works like charm without any site being blocked.

Code:

That link is blocked. The VPN I discussed above is not blocked.
