I'm not interested in sharing a house but I am intrigued by your implication that the air in district 7 is fresh. How could it possibly be? Doesn't all the air pollution in HCMC just float around and settle everywhere?
Or do you mean that the house is air conditioned so the inside air is fresh?
I'm looking for fresh air myself but figured I'd have to move to Vung Tau to get it. |

Also, when you say "semi-rural", I react, how can there be anything remotely rural in this most urban of cities?
Or if this is really true, is it possible to rent a house there that has some land so you can grow a garden? |

Seriously, people that have grown gardens have had their growings nicked. But if you have a yard, and the landlord does not mind, I suppose it's ok. |

Oh no. I never thought about that. So if i grow my own vegetables like I want to, organically, using heirloom seeds, so I don't have to eat the locally grown pesticide laden stuff, put tons of work and love into the task, I will wake one morning to find that Viets have stolen all my tomatoes and broccoli in the dark of night? Odds of this happening in HCMC or Vung Tau? This is so depressing.
Maybe get a place with a big balcony and grow in containers is the only way. |

| Check it out: http://www.organikvn.com/[url] Its here now. Also Big C is implementing an organic produce section. District 7 is like a different city...or even a different country. Who knows the real cost of such gentrification? |

| For a garden; get a house with a rooftop, plenty of room there. Just make sure and create some shade. |

Hmmm. interesting. I've only been to district 7 once, visited Phu My Hung at night. I did notice that it was much quieter and cleaner than District 1, but I wouldn't describe it as semi-rural. If there are semi-rural parts of HCMC, maybe in Nha Be district or Can Gio (I've been doing some googling on this), I should pay a visit. If I could only find a way to wake up early so I can make a day trip out of it, and return before the buses stop running, usually at 6 or 7 PM. Gotta stop waking up at noon.
I heard about that Organik farm in Dalat, but it's very limited in its offerings and fairly expensive. I'd rather grow my own. The rooftop is a great idea, thanks Tony. But that means renting a whole multistory house, which is a lot bigger than I need.
Also been looking into indoor gardening with Grow Lights. I'll bet you'd have a lot less trouble with bugs if you did it indoors or on the roof, rather than in a plot of land.
I know Co-op Mart claims its vegetables are "rau sach" (clean vegetables) but that's not the same thing as organic. They don't have any organic standards in VN. When they call it organic, they mean "less pesticides" not "no pesticides.", and I doubt if they ever heard of a compost pile in VN. |
