If someone can re-direct this post or give some insight.
Been sending money to Canada through HSBC wire transfer, and upon reviewing my statements realized I'm charged almost 100 dollars for the 700 dollars I'm sending. Sort of ridiculous.
Any other way to do this?
Clearly there's issue of not being able to change my VND to USD without losing a lot of cash exchanging on the black market, or I'd be using western union.
Any suggestions?

I *THINK* that HSBC brags about how it's a truly global bank and that their accounts are "seamless" WORLDWIDE.
Maybe next time you're home in Canada (if you don't already have an account there), swing by an HSBC and ask them if you can deposit Vietnam Dong at an HSBC bank branch in Vietnam into your Canadian HSBC bank account!
SUPPOSEDLY, HSBC CLAIMS that you are able to do this, but again......This Is Vietnam...... |

Vietcom bank seems to charge a very small fee, I know when I send money what ends up back at Bank of America back home is usually only $30-$50 less than total dong value I sent, so yeah, if there's any way you can get an account with them, check it out (they will however require a copy of an employment contract as well as a recent pay statement).
The other thing is that all banks in Vietnam by law must give you USD at the posted rate if you show them work contract, pay statement, and an airline ticket with your name that proves you're leaving the country. |

Yep and it's very easy. Actually my whole experience with the ANZ over here has been completely hassle free - just what I look for in a bank! Just open an ANZ account here (you will need your passport and some employment documents to prove that you are working here legally). When it's time to transfer money turn up to a branch with your passport and the bank details for your overseas account and five minutes later it's done. Takes about three working days for the money to hit your account abroad. |

| Need at least 1 mo on your visa to apply there, though. It seemed pretty hassle free otherwise. |
