Ok so I'm looking into teaching in China for the short term, then going to Taiwan after. I was wondering if anyone would know the best way to get visa stuff done from other Asian countries?
Does Taiwan need a criminal background check? If so is there an age limit on this? These being one of the hardest things to get done overseas I was wondering what the deal was and if I could get it prepared before I left
Thanks! |

In 2009, I went to Taiwan from the UAE. I had a Criminal Background Check done in the UAE because (A) that was my most recent address and (B) it's a royal pain getting anything meaningful from the U.S., my country of citizenship, without going back to the U.S. to submit fingerprints.
I already had a job offer, don't know if that makes a difference - I doubt it, they mostly seemed to want me to have some kind of official document that said I had no criminal record, so the one from the UAE was fine. |

I thought a criminal backround check wasn't needed in Taiwan? |

It isn't generally, although a few employers may ask for it as part of their own requirements; and then there are the people applying for marriage visas. |

The easiest way to get a visa for Taiwan in your situation would be in Hong Kong. |

What would you need to get done exactly in Hong kong?
Is there any time limit on the criminal background check? Like if I got one in Canada, before going to China then went to Taiwan after? I am only planning on being in China for 5/6 months.
Ps Love Zoidberg, great pic |

You shouldn't need to get a criminal background check done at all. In Hong Kong just apply for a Taiwanese visa. Then inside Taiwan your future employer can convert it into a work visa. |
