Most decent-paying schools do not need recruiters or advertisements to catch teachers. The very fact that they pay well sells for itself. And when teachers eventually leave, they seldom advertise it loudly unless they simply cannot find a teacher. I promise you that if I had a stellar job at 20k a month with everything provided at low working hours, I'd stay for a long time. That, and when I decided to leave, I'd make sure my friends know about it so they would have a chance to apply.

You can always tell recruiters the salary you are looking for, but they often make money off of your back.

In Shanghai, the competition is fierce. Everytime you turn around, you see another foreigner. There is no need for employers/recruiters to pay a premium for your sevices. If a high paying job were advertised, it would certainly be grabbed up in a hurry.
