I have heard some mixed reviews of Shane English, most of them have been pretty bad. Also, most of them have been about their branches in Japan.

I haven't had heard anything specific about their branch in Beijing. I just had an interview with them and it was a surprisingly intense and rather long by ESL teaching standards. Not sure if I have had a 30 minute+ interview with a private academy in China or Korea.

They put up a front of being pretty serious. Their package is also sort of goofy. Basically, 10,500 RMB/month but no apartment, health insurance or airfare reimbursement. Most places at least provide an apartment.

Not sure what to think about it. Opinions?

Yeah, I guess that's incorporated into the monthly salary.

Still, is it worthwhile? I am offered 10,500 RMB for 20 hours work (no office hours) but nothing is paid for by the school (health care, apartment, utilities etc). Is that enough to live on?

It is (just) enough to live on, but why would you take a position that you can only scrape by on. This level of pay and lack of benifits is unacceptable; if they run a professional interview process and work in a professional way then they should be expected to pay accordingly.

If you're good at what you do then don't accept this offer.

Thank you folks. The huge variance of cost of living in China makes it difficult to evaluate what deal is most financially suitable.
