I remember that fire. It was right next to my villa. Yes, he did in fact cause the fire, he told me about it the next day. A pot was left on the oven and overheated.

I went into the burned out villa and saw exactly where the fire started.

As I said in the other PMU thread, there were lots of rumors regarding this poster, the fire in his villa, and his failure to return the next semester. Rumor had it that he was something that is known as a "hoarder" on US television, someone who keeps everything and never throws anything away. They said that his kitchen was full of stacks of newspapers and unthrown-away rubbish and therefore what should have been a small kitchen fire turned out to a big one causing so much major damage that the place was rendered unliveable.

I also mentioned on the other thread that I saw his villa being cleaned, months after the fire had occurred. I don't know if the rumor was true, but there did appear to be enormous amounts of burned stuff being pulled from the villa. What worried me was that there seemed to be no effort to sort through anything. I just remember hoping at the time that he had already been able to go through the damaged villa and retrieve anything of value to him, especially any important paperwork. If he hadn't, it was just going into the big bin with everything else.

As I remember events, right after the fire (2 days) the front door was locked. I do not recall any effort to salvage anything.

This is a quote from another thread;

I am "using creative ways" to write this message from within the hidden kingdom.
Another possible reason that the site is being blocked is all the bad press PMU has been getting on this site recently.
I'm embarrassed for the short-sighted and reactive approach. I feel pity towards the people that think this is the only solution (besides honestly trying to fix things).
Just one more way I feel alone and isolated in this place. At least the pay is good.

This will slow down the message in the kingdom but will not stop it. It also will have no effect on the people outside the kingdom who will view this and hopefully will be more selective about employment in KSA. Why don't these dodgy employers learn from their mistakes. To continue down this path must be counterproductive - what kind of people will join places with reputations like this? The time to change is NOW!

It's the same no-thought, knee-jerk reaction that politicians have whenever some embarrassing/illegal behavior of theirs threatens to go public.

Deny, stonewall, whitewash.

They never seem to learn that the cover-up always only magnifies the problems.

Regards,
John

We all know from direct experience, the one thing an Arab hates the most is to loose face in public.

Well, I think there has been an enormous amout of face lost due to the second axiom.

Arabs rule, all else slave to the leaders.

This is why so little has been done, even when it is obvious the boss goofed.

If the site is being blocked in the Kingdom, how are some people still posting here? If it is being blocked, then it supports what I say about the Kingdom. In the end it is a facist state and an offended prince can simply get access to an entire website blocked for the entire country. Or pull your exit visa on a whim, or whatever else sort of mayhem may be desired.

This is the sort of fear and insecurity I chose not to live with. And the footfalls on the way to the airport continue from said prince's university.

It is definitely blocked. But, many of our posters know how to use proxy servers. Laughing

And I don't recall anyone ever suggesting that it was a liberal democracy or anything other than what it has always been...

There are many miles of difference between facism and liberal democracy. The Kingdom is nowhere along that road. I'm not saying that people shouldn't choose to live there, but it is ludicrous to say it is just a place like all others. There is a singularity in the level of corruption and inhamanity of treatment of various peoples within the Kingdom. It is not the worst, but it is uniquely what it is.

Two words are central to daily Saudi life:

1. Wasta or influence, which gives power.

2. bakshish or unmerited money handout, which is seen commonly at street corners.

Bottomline: no money or power means you are inferior.

I see PMU has once again risen to the top of the outhouse pond.

The (Mis)management of PMU don't believe in solving problems they just like to shoot the messenger. I found out about this because people within the kinkdom emailed me, but they are managing to get around this embargo by various means. I am wondering what mismanagement hope to achieve by doing this. They are hiring from outside, and those people interested in working in KSA will be able to access this forum. I really wonder if the prince knows, or whether it is he they are trying to keep in the dark. I wish they would make me rector for 12 months, and they wouldn't have to pay me a six-figure sum whilst giving as little as possible to the teachers. Sack the six or so sycophants who keep propping Issa up, and Issa too, and the place could get back on track very quickly

What I said was that Saudi Arabia is no where along the road between them. It is facist. That was my point. I am sure everyone does
reckon the difference between the two, but most countries, including the USA and Britain, are somewhere along the continuum.

I hate being semi-quoted or having my words taken conveniently out of context.
