LOL! You DO have a sense of humour!

The easiest way I have found for using the quote function is to first type your response, then highlight the part you want quoted, and then click on Quote (4th button from the left above your type). Buena suerte.[/quote]

Im not always grumpy Samantha, it's just that our species disappoints me more often than not Very Happy

Prediction is that this wont work...again! But thanks for the tip.

What i see is lacking of a similar fountain of info on businesses in the ESL sector. A business directory of sorts with details on offers, costs, etc. could really help a newby as well.

Are you referring to a job guide of sorts, when you say business directory, or?

P.S.
LOL. Bear with me. I am trying to show off my teaching skills and you are making me look bad. hehe You do have a left click button on your mouse, right? Cool

We appear to reside in all parts of the Republic. Im sure between all of us we have hundreds of years experience in the job market. Why not use that wealth of experience and make a database of sorts for (by category, by state, whatever) and list the info we have about the businesses we know a bit about.

EX: SCHOOLS
STATE: COLIMA
CITY: xxxx
SCHOOL NAME: xxxx
TYPE OF EMPLOYEE HIRED:xxxx
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:xxxx
COMPENSATION PACKAGE OFFERED:xxxx
STAFF TURNOVER:xxxx
PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS:xxxx

Teacher certificate providers could be included as well.

Now you expect me to know my left from my right? A bridge too far my dear Wink

I think a thread was started off talking about language schools some time back- but very few people contributed.

I have some bad news for you the peanut gallery, I'm afraid:

More than half of UK companies plan to freeze or cut their employees' pay in 2011, according to a survey by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).

Wouldn't that be nice? Actually there was a guy who did that years ago, and he used to sell it for a pretty peso. But the reality, and I think why he stopped doing it, is that it would be a monumental task to complete and accurately maintain. So many factors come into play.

I thought the golden rule on Dave's was to not compare the USA (wages, cost of living, security, etc.) with Mexico. So why does UK wage policy have a place? I neither live in the UK or am employed by a UK company so i dont know why its bad news for me Question It is certainly bad news for people who are though. Then again, wages in the UK are some of the highest in the world so a year of austerity is manageable, if undesirable.

Oh, I'm not comparing wages or anything like that- I just think the article shows what business is doing, or thinking about doing.

As we live in a global marketplace I believe this news to be noteworthy and therefore worth posting

I know you werent comparing wages, just seemed a bit out of place, even for here.

One could read the article as austerity measures being planned for half of UK businesses. Someone else could read that half the companies DONT plan austerity measures. Perhaps the ones freezing salaries are in trouble due to loss of market share or poor hiring resulting in below par customer satisfaction. Anyone can speculate as to the hows and whys but if one company is doing something and another one isnt its a non story IMHO.

As the title of the thread is 'year end bonus for EFLers' I wanted to post a perspective concerning renumeraion and expectations for the forthcoming year.

I didn't jump to conclusion. I didn't say anything. I just wanted to note that business confidence is low and as a result we probably won't be seeing pay rises in the forthcoming year.

Seems on thread to me. Unless the original idea was forgotten about?

I'm glad the moderators let this thread keep going when I thought it might be close to being shut down a couple of times. I had a bias against language schools when I first started reading this board about five years ago, but Greg has won me over. One of the key elements that makes his school "work" is the low class loads. Managing large classes, particularly in the US, is what basic classes in pedagogy are mostly about and even then we are not prepared for the realities of too large classes.

Greg, based on past comments on several threads, seems to be clear about not just taking any warm body into his program, sincerely interested in professional development and the low class loads are definitely designed with the students' interest in mind. Phil K also reflects this philosophy in what he is doing with real customer service.

The bottom line is that you cannot pay more without more income.
When I was a state funded adult school principal ( and we payed 25-30 dollars per hour Very Happy ) I would have been in the position of suspending a class that averaged only seven students. Crying or Very sad

My personal interest is in improving public school English teaching in Mexico because that's my background, but the ideas posted by all of you have opened my eyes to private lessons, all kinds of schools and different ideas on teacher training. I can see from several posters that there is common interest in this forum in seeing things improve in all of our situations- even from the seemingly negative posters. Here's to a better new year for all and may we keep communicating often! Smile

"....Where do you talk about paid holidays?

SORRY, AFTER EARNING 32 PESOS PER HOUR I DOUBT ANY EMPLOYEES CAN GO ANYWHERE, EVEN WITH HOLIDAY PAY. "

You are incorrect. I mentioned holiday pay (year end bonus) during our discussion about your 32 peso hourly wage.

Here is a novel concept. If you don't like Greg's pay package, don't work for him.
