Is it just me or is there a flu lingering about at the moment that won't go away? I've picked it up twice now and was prescribed a cocktail of garbage from the man over the counter.
It would seem that doctors and chemists seem to be hand in pocket with antibiotics manufacturers. They seem really keen on amoxicillin and want you to take 3 pills daily. Has anyone else come across this phenomena of doctors here going for antibiotics as some kind of cure-all wonder drug? |

NEVER NEVER NEVER take an antibiotic for the flu or a cold. Useless... And this is even common in the West although it is more expensive and requires a prescription.
Take aspirin to lower the fever. Your fever isn't very high at only 38. Get to bed and keep hydrated. If you have had it twice in a short time, that suggests that your immune system isn't working well. Perhaps you need to get more sleep and take some vitamins.

Antibiotics work on bacteria, and the flu/cold is caused by a virus.
So I don't know what kind of quack is giving you antibiotics for a viral infection. Perhaps it is actually a bacterial infection (chest infection, throat infection, etc) but you are calling it the 'flu', as a lot of people do? |
