I have an interview with Amity next month, and I wanted to see if someone could give me advice about my interview idea. My plan is to play guitar and do a song teaching I like and I don't like vegetables. The lyrics are on the cheesy side, but I was wondering how this might go over. I will present pictures of different cartoon veggies blown up at kinko's and have a student volunteer turn the photos as the song changes lyrics.
I have a B.ed and have been teaching 7th Grade English in North Carolina for the past 2 years. Honestly, I hate teaching in the american public school system. The stress really is overwhelming! Therefore, I have been very interested in teaching in Japan. I am excided that they use music in the classroom. I am a singer\songwriter, and I've been playing guitar for over 20 years. I have used music in the classroom in the states with great success, and it sure seems that there is a good amount of music in Japanese esl classrooms as well.
I was also thinking about doing a game. What do you think? |

You would probably only have time for one real activity aside from introducing vocabulary during an interview lesson. If you wanted a game incorporating that, maybe you could lay all the cards out, one fewer card than the number of students, and do a musical chairs kind of game where they have to grab a card when you say that you like it in the song, but not when you say you don't like it. Or just have the same number of cards as kids so that nobody's a loser. Also janken if there's a tie because if they were real kids they would rip your cards apart in that situation. |
