Does anyone have any thoughts on the BC in Damascus? Sounds an interesting opportunity. The local salary is just short of 40,000 SP per month with another 36,000SP for accommodation. Is this a good deal?
Many thanks. |

Hi
It had a good reputation when I spent 4 or so years back in early years of 2000.
Nice building in a very nice area and very comfortable. I visited it several times and was very impressed by its decor and set-up.
I have neither seen nor heard anything to suggest anything has changed.
Yes, the pay is not bad for Damascus alto I do know that prices of food etc and accomodation have risen dramatically since I left.
I would consider the offer in a positve light.
Best

The salary at 999 per month seems really poor. Even if housing is included.
39333 sp per month + 416 and a housing allowance of between 36 to 39k sp... Wouldn't you realistically be living hand to mouth on that?
It says in the ad that you can easily save your salary, so let's say that's the case, 39333sp per month not including housing...doable, comfortable ora struggle? |

Re the 39500 pay
A reply from a Syrian friend living in Homs:
A person in Damascus needs a least an avarage of about 15000 Sp for just food and transport (say living normally).
Normal accommodation costs about 15000 (not in the center of course)
So, you can judge yourself. of course, you should take other needs in account like medical care.....
in my openion it just dosn't worth. For a syrian guy it may be good.
But for a foreigner it would be fine if it was in Homs because the cost of lliving is much less.
Best

Oh wow, thanks Basil,
So I guess it is possible by that account, but perhaps not highly recommended for Damascus. In fact, to be fair, by your friends account, it's not nearly as bad as I initially imagined. |
