I'd love to work at the BC |
It's not that good, believe me. Also try and get some private students, e.g. from the university. I had one private class of Universiti Malaya researchers, which I got after placing an advert in The Star newspaper.
I'd double check that link I posted. The fees (for the courses you and I are interested in) are RM43500 for non-Malaysians.
I'm not going to pretend Malaysia's lower cost of living, compared to the UK, will compensate for the higher university fees, but I just fancy a year out. |

Yeah the BC in Malaysia doesn't seem to have - for lack of a better description - that ivy league reputation that I thought it might.
Actually, the MA TESOL is 42k Not a huge difference, but worth noting I guess.
I hear ya on wanting 'a year out'. Go for it! |

It's all a bit of a palaver.
$50 application fee
RM43500 course fee
Medical and Chest x-ray
$300 Visa
Campus 30Km south of KL, get to Kajang train station and then a taxi
I can't imagine I'll be knee deep in fellow Brits there. Nottingham Uni KL haven't exactly sold this well so far. |

Yeah honestly if I had to attend regular classes, I probably wouldn't do Nottingham Malaysia. A positive for me with the MA TESOL is that the classes are only once every 2 or 3 months, which gives me the freedom to live wherever, as well as work.
It's not cheap, though honestly if I were to continue doing my Athabasca classes (distance uni), it would cost double the MA at least to actually finish it. |

I'm dreading the journey and haven't even applied yet. I've seen the KL City Campus loads of times. That's easy to get to, and I think the Education courses take place there.
But for the main campus, the website advises getting a KTM Commuter train to Kajang, on very old, packed out and none too reliable trains, and then a University bus. I just hope there's no 9am lectures. |

I'd be interested to know how you found the University if you go.
I'm looking to do a part-time PhD in Education in a few years. When I converted the fees it would work out a lot cheaper to do it in KL in comparison to the UK.
To be honest I don't want to spend any more time than I have to in the UK. I'm stuck here after doing my PGCE trying to do my NQT year. It's driving me mad.....
I want to be back in Asia. Just have to make do with holidays for now. |
