If teachers are willing to come to China as a volunteer and pay an exorbitant placement fee for the "privilege", why wouldn't teachers be willing to come teach for 3,000 rmb a month? |

It's not even 3,000. It gives them room to offer even less! |

Maybe it was abroadchina.org? Or the 'teacherregistry' - I don't recall the website. I get the same kind of emails. |

While not untenable, this offer has to be down at the bottom end of the food chain.
The min should be 3500pm.
The teaching hours s/be max 18pw.
There should be travel refund/allowance of RMB10000 for one year and in this case pro rated for the part year.
Rent free accom with most/all utilities on campus.
Access to staff cafetaria
and..
No school split with say 2 hours at one school in the am then an hour bus ride to do 2 hours in the pm at another school.
Given the jobless recovery in the US and yep the missionary group, there will be people interested in these jobs. |

The min should be 5000rmb a month for 14 - 16 classes a week. They even mention a degree is not absolutely necessary. Any native speaker with or without a degree should avoid this offer at all costs. |

What it 'should' be ain't necessarily the same as what it 'is'.
ESL is a market like anything else and employers can staff their operations at RMB3500 to RMB4500 in popular east coast cities. They don't need to pay more with the so-called 'missionary' bottom feeders at say RMB2000 (or nothing with accom) filling some positions and a less than buoyant US economy providing fewer entry level positions for grads. |
