To those working in the Gulf region, how is the War in Iraq "playing" in the Gulf? How does this impact you as a teacher in the region?

Good question! I'd like to know if people --especially Americans-- are getting razzed by their students. |

No, at least as far as my experience here in Saudi Arabia. All the excitement here is on the local festivities.
Even the teachers seem uninformed and uninterested. |

I would suggest that as long as the subject is not brought up (luckily, here, it hasnt been so far) , everybody seems to get along fine here. i guess syrians discuss it amongst themselves but we dont get involved. i think syrians realise that if they ever brought the subject up with us, we would feel really uncomfortable; so they dont .. and thats nice.

The topic is a no-no. So too of course are the usual areas of sex, religion, alcohol, drugs and politics. |

If we didnt' have television or newspapers, we wouldn't know there was anything going on in Iraq. My students have never talked about it nor the Arabic staff. It's just business as usual. |

I'm in Oman and haven't had any problems as a result of the war. I occasionally talk about it to my students (in classes that are close-knit), but they are polite and respectful and haven't harrassed me or anything. In general, the Omanis are glad Saddam is gone but now they want the US out of there.
I know several Iraqis and we've talked about it as well. They're extremely grateful to the US for getting rid of Saddam, but feelings are getting stronger about the US leaving. Still no problems on a personal level, though. We've just had some very interesting, honest discussions. |

Nope-as long as it's pork-free. BTW, gnocchi is only served at the finest establishments |

I thought it said in the Treaty of Rome that the Italians had to abolish those Latin Declensions ! (apart for plural forms - even English has them !) |

So, I guess we've established that the war in Iraq hasn't impacted our teaching here in the Gulf!
To use Khmerhit's imperative form of my "name":
Gnoch it off!!!!
