Hello,
I am looking to go to China over the summer and I have come across a language exchange program that seems interesting. I am just wondering if anyone has ever heard of Aston language school or if anyone has participated in their program. I would be really grateful for any feedback or information Smile

I think this program looks OK. I think this is a good way to spend two months in China, see some of the country, meet some of the people, learn a little of the language and have some fun.

I dont know the Aston company from this website. There is a bigger Aston who have a number of language schools, but I dont think your link is for the same company. A number of the links on their website dont seem to work so I cant look at them in too much detail, but this type of program, that costs nothing, could be a great summer adventure for you.

http://www.omeida.org/ is a link for my old employer who also has a similar volunteer/exchange program. Last year when I was with them, a few people did this program, it was normally just 4 or 5 hours a week, with the same in return ... 4 or 5 hours of language tuition etc. Its normally working with adults though, which I prefer to working with kids.

I think a number of places offer these kind of programs. Some people may suggest a proper paid job in a summer camp, which may be an option, but by the same token, may be an awful lot of work and not much fun. If you are just coming on a summer adventure the volunteer option would be better as it will give you more free time to explore and enjoy the local street life/nightlife/country etc

Yes, just make sure this Aston is not the same Aston that is always looking for teachers on Dave's site (you can read quite a few previous threads on how shoddy an organization the Wisners run).

I would not put it past them to have a dummy site to suck in the gullible and then persuade them to teach for them.
