I have an interview in April with AEON, and want to make a good impression. I know that suits are required, and NOT black. Keeping that in mind, I am shopping for a few new suits, but was wondering how formal of a suit I needed. Would these be appropriate? I am working on a limited budget at the moment, and I know that the best quality suits can cost a lot.

Either are fine but very loud - you will stand out! haha - I went for navy and charcoal. A girl in our training group did have a purple suit and a red suit and she looked awesome. You can also wear black with pinstripes.

Uhh... what's wrong with black? Everyone wears black suits all the time in Japan.

When I at least had my interview back in July we were explicitly told by the recruiters that all black suits/blazers were not allowed in their dress code (I can't remember the reason). Pinstripes were okay and so were other dark colors but not straight out black. I've heard a couple other people in these forums echo the same thing from their interviews with AEON.

They also said that those who came to the interview in all black outfits didn't have any points against them, but they seemed to really appreciate those who didn't, so it doesn't hurt to show up in not-black I guess.

Dark gray, navy blue, brown.

Ditch the idea of that glaringly bright blue and pink. Sheesh! Japan is a conservative country. Only a TV talento would wear those (and get good laughs).

I know that Japan is conservative, I worked there a few years. The colors are a bit bright, aren't they? And I would look cartoonish in them too. I did wear a bright red suit jacket once, though, on Christmas. Kids loved it.
Those particular suits do come in darker shades- gray or navy blue. would the style of the suit be formal enough? Women's suits are so dressy, rather than how office-formal mens suits can be. [/quote]

Colour aside... what material are they? Because looking at some of the creasing on the models' arms, it looks as though the jackets are so thin as to almost appear shirt-like.

Considering that they're $20 for a full pantsuit, I wouldn't expect them to be the best quality.

I was hired before the ban on black suits and landed for training just as it ent into practice (luckily I hadn't gotten any black anyways). As far as I was told, the no black suits rule had something to do with looking like you are going to a funeral. They wanted the classes to stay fun and interesting and didn't want the students to feel as though you were sad, depressed, mourning etc. Black with pin stripes were fine, and black pants with a coloured jacket were fine as well (I'm female and only actually had one matching pant suit, the rest were separates.)

Get a grey suit. Or pinstripe. Or grey pinstripe. I'm at a Japanese Junior High School right now, looking around at what the teachers are wearing...

Aw man! I just bought a really nice black suit because I swear I just read they required it....of course now I can't find that anywhere......If I mix and match will it be ok to wear black? or would it be better to exchange for something non black ? Confused Is the no black suit thing pretty general now?

another question...
does Aeon require teachers to wear a jacket at the office (and in the classroom?) or are slacks, dress shirt, and tie ok?

You may be allowed to remove your jacket if you are doing a class for very young children, but generally speaking you'll have to keep your jacket on at all times.

when i had my interview with amity. everyone was wearing black pants and black jackets. the interviewers didn't seem to have any problems with it. they showed pictures of what the work attire had to be in the personal interview and everyone was wearing black except for the dress shirt which was mostly white and blue, neutral colors.

for girls no sexy, dressy work clothes allowed. like the ones promoted by all the clothing stores. 3/4 quarter blazers not allowed. has to be full length to your wrist.
