Sounds reasonable to me. While on an FM3, you are classed as "visitante", but you can work for money. Therefore, I don't see the problem. |

Maybe it's just bureaucratic semantics. My FM3 (the old format) says I'm classified as "no inmigrante con actividad lucrativa". |

OK, I looked at her card, again, and what it says is-
"calidad" no inmigrante; "caracteristica" visitante; "Modalidad" Rentista-Lucrativa.
I always thought the rentista category was necessarily limited to non lucrative activities; but, in her case, they seem to have taken a different view. What she told them, as I understand it, was that she works, but not in Mexico. In any case, I'm still puzzled, but haven't bothered to ask INM what they meant by that. |

The old FM3s have a "caracterista anterior" category but not a current "caracterista" category. If your wife qualifies for a "rentista" FM3, it was foolish of her to volunteer the information that she works outside of Mexico, since it is none of their business. I hope it doesn't cause problems for her in the future. |

Tretyakovskii, maybe this will help you. There is this expat named "V" who has lived in Cancun a fairly short length of time, yet seems to have everything figured out with Immigration and gives advice to the other Expats. You perhaps know him, since Cancun is not that big.
The "Visitante Lucrativa" is for business visitors up to 180 days in Mexico, so if that's not what she applied for then there may be some sort of a problem. I suspect "V" would be your "go to" guy with INM Cancun, rather than this forum since each office is obviously quite different.
