Firstly, hello to everyone on these forums. I've been reading lots of your posts over the last couple of weeks, and they've all been very informative.

I'm currently working in England, saving up so that I can afford to go to S.A, probably do a CELTA out there, and then hopefully get a job teaching English. I know that I have to ensure that I have a safety net of money to keep me going until I can find a job. I also want to be able to have enough money to see some of the sights of the country I go to. My question is; how much money ideally should I have saved up before I leave England?

After paying for your flight and CELTA, I'd recommend a minimum of $4000 USD. Find a homestay program if you want to live relatively cheaply.

I'd have at least $2000. ANd money at home and on a credit card just in case. If you budget, you'll be fine. Housing and food can be found cheaply enough.

I think the equivalent $2500 US dollars, not counting the cost of the flight (round-trip!) and the CELTA course. Sure $4000 would be nice! And I'm sure you could use it. The hard thing for those coming from England is the flight. A flight home costs about double what an American would pay.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I should be able to save enough so that I can bring $4000 with me after I've paid for flights and the CELTA.
