I'm planning to teach abroad next year and scheduling interviews with a few recruiters. I've narrowed my preferences down to three locations UAE, Shanghai, and Thailand based on online research but you never know...
I have a year old baby to consider and we will be mostly on our own. My hubby will join us from time to time but he travels a lot for his own job. I'm a US Citizen, fluent English speaker, have a Masters degree in education, 8 years of experience teaching Kindergarten, 2 years as an Instructional Coach, Certified K-8 teacher.
If you have experience teaching / living in any of these areas please share your perspective.
Thanks in advance

If I had your qualifications and was looking for a new job (I have an 8 month old), I would probably try and get a position in the UAE. I don't have experience in that particular country (Egypt only) but the gulf is good for families. There's no shortage in finding a good English-speaking/bilingual nanny, the pay is good, the country is safe and secure, and it's very child-friendly.
I have a good friend living in Dubai (although she is not a teacher, she is an engineer) and she cannot say enough good things about the childcare options. The only thing she is uncomfortable with is having her child in the car with the scary traffic but that's not going to be much different than Thailand or China.
Not that there is anything wrong with Thailand or China, but with such a young child, I would go with UAE. Have you see the UAE forum here?
Good luck |
