Let it go. Let it all go. For your own sanity and health.

There is no manual on how anyone should act or react when faced with cancer of any type. I personally believe your FAO should join some sort of support group. He was obviously in serious denial.

But, the most important thing is for you to focus on your recovery. So, let it all go and look toward the future.

Once you have this thing beat you can make your way back to China. Marry that wonderful gf and start a new life. Right now you should direct your anger at your real problem, the disease.

Good luck, remain positive and remember Dave's little f-ed up family will be here when its time for you to return to teaching. I wish you all the hope in the world and I really hope you are in a country that provides for is citizens. If I were faced with the same situation I would have to remain in China and hope for the best.

It is difficult to judge the "avoid this school" thing with only knowing their reaction to your very traumatic discovery of cancer.

Individuals' reactions DID show complete insensitivity and/or ignorance to the reality of what you're going through, but like others who have posted I am not at all surprised. China isn't the only place you find bosses like this, either: even in some "civilized" first world countries there are plenty of companies and schools who will do everything in their power to wriggle out of their legal (let alone moral) obligations to even very senior staff in similar circumstances.

Let go of the bitterness, and carpe diem. My very best wishes for your future.
