Hello,
Hope everyone is well. First time poster here. I am HIGHLY interested in going to teach English in TOKYO, Japan.

I have applied to AEON and Amity so far. I have missed the deadline for Jet programme - and I do not want to wait until next year to go.

What other schools are in Tokyo that I should apply to?

I realize this is going to be a really competitive process, but this is something that I really really want.

I would be interested in other big cities too.. like Osaka.

I'd really appreciate SO much any comments or suggestions.

Thank you soooo much!!

Oh, and just some background information - I'm 22, recent grad, and I have my TESL diploma.

That silence you're hearing is the sound of people of people not doing your homework for you.

Read the stickies and run a search. All your answers are there. Don't you think you should do at least *some* work for a job lead?

If you want to teach in Tokyo, JET would not be the way to go because I think only about 3 people are placed in Tokyo and they are usually placed on the islands nearby Tokyo.
Unfortunately, you are not unlike thousands of other people in only wanting to teach in a large city (particularly Tokyo.) There are several things working against you; one: you are not in Japan. Two: many employers do not hire overseas candidates. Three: you have the same qualifications as just about everyone currently looking for work. I take it that you do not have any experience teaching children and/or adults?
My advice to you would be to try and find a job somewhere in Japan (most likely a suburban or rural location), spend a year working there and then look for work in a larger city.
I also wanted to work in a large city when I first started my job hunt but the competition is so fierce I was not able to secure a big city placement. But now that I am in Japan and have a proper work visa, tons of employers are contacting me in Osaka and Tokyo. I should really take my resume down from gaijinpot.com because some of the invitations are really quite tempting....
So....good luck to you. Here are some job websites.

https://jobs.gaijinpot.com/
and of course look under the International Jobs section on this website.
Welllll that's my two cents. Anyone else?

I understand the desire to get things moving once you've made up your mind, but I'd advise patience and flexibility. I decided to pursue this seriously in 2008, and was finally hired in November of last year.

I applied to JET twice, and didn't get an interview. I applied to ECC, got an interview and two hours after I booked my flight, they canceled all the interviews for the year. I again applied to ECC and AEON in March of last year and didn't hear back from ECC this time, but AEON did schedule me for an interview in October of 2010. Now I'm preparing to leave for Japan in April.

And after all of that, I consider myself very fortunate.

The simple answer, and one you are probably not going to like, is that you should apply to every school in Tokyo that is advertising. Nothing less. Avoid the more notorious ones, of course.

I have to echo G Cthulhu's remark, though. You are a generic newcomer and are expected to do some basic TEFL research on your own first. It's all uphill from here, but the FAQ stickies were created for a reason.

Thank you all so much! I'm going to apply to like EVERY single school in Japan!

I just got an interview with ECC - so we'll see how that goes.

Very best wishes to you all!
