Hi all, I hope you can help...and despite checking this forum for a while I'm still confused so please don't refer me to other posts!
I'm British and want to move to Taiwan soon to teach, but I have a caution on my UK criminal record from a while back. I know this won't appear if I get the check from Disclosure Scotland, so my question is this: do schools in Taiwan require a background check, and if so, do they accept the check from Disclosure Scotland?
Next, providing that's all gravy, I believe I would have to apply for an ARC from the Taiwanese police? Would they also check my background, and do you know if anything would show up?
Grateful for any info. Cheers! |

I brought a criminal background check with me when I came to Taiwan. Nobody asked for it. When I offered it, they weren't the least bit interested in looking at it.
The only time I had to provide a criminal background check was when I applied for my JFRV after I got married. |

Thanks for that - but how about when I apply for the ARC? Will it come through then?

| You won't need a criminal background check to get an ARC. |

| Lately, more and more jobs are actually checking for criminal background checks before they hire you. I had to provide one from the States and so did a couple of people I know. I would cover all my bases because I hear it is a pain to get the background check while in Taiwan. |

Yeah, I did a search for this topic, but this is about all I came up with. I have a Q and maybe a Taiwan old hand(or recent arrival!)can help me out.
I'm not new to EFL in E. Asia but I've never taught in Taiwan and visa regulations & rules have gone bonkers(esp. in Korea) since I was last in that part of the world. Anyway, I have a chance at a public school gig in Taiwan and the recruiter(whose English is not exactly...ahem...crackerjack)says he wants a fresh CRC. Fine. I got one. But unlike days of yore, now, if you state you intend to teach overseas, the cops no longer include a vulnerable sector statement on the CRC. Apparently, you have to go through a hell of a rigmarole with fingerprints, etc. to get it done. Keeeriiist.....
So to anyone out there(esp. Canadians who have public school contracts)I just wanna know: do you have to have the vulnerable sector search in order to get a contract/visa?
Cheers. |
