I've got 8 people on my visa. I ordered a 3 month multipe visa online.

The company states this is normal and that there are 10 people on my visa, of which, I can only find 8.

No, thats wrong, there are 8 people on my visa. I'm no. 7.

I only ordered one for myself and now, apparently, I'm part of a 'group'.

Is there any one out there interested in fishing? Like, line and rod fishing? Is it possible around Hanoi. I won't be bringing any gear with me, so I was wondering if I could rent out or buy a decent rod and reel or two, on the cheap.

I'd love to catch a catfish, I've never caught one of those.

Yes, although strange, it is common to have a 'group' of people listed on your visa on arrival form. I believe they are all processed at the same time, and sent to the recipients meaning that there are another 7 people about to land in VN looking at your name on their visa form wondering the same thing.

Lake and river fishing is a huge industry here in VN, you will pick up gear readily and cheaply.

Particularly for the visa-on-arrival (where you get a letter from Immigration emailed to you) there will be several people listed. Just a procedural thing, probably a way for the service you use to save money, and nothing for you to be worried about.

I bought a fishing rod, reel, sinkers, hooks, and line all for about 600,000VND, which was around $25 back then. Interestingly, in my city, the place to buy fishing gear is at toy stores!

The quality of fishing, however, is questionable and dependent on where you go. Sea fishing from the shore is often unrewarding, as is fishing from a boat offshore. The Vietnamese fleets leave early and catch everything you might want to nab, and around shore, there are poor locals who make a pittance and perhaps a meal by using large gill nets. I've watched them at work on several occasions, and even these big gill nets come up with only a few bucket-fulls of smallish fish.

The Vietnamese actually have birthday parties and other gatherings at fishing cafes, which are usually big outdoor restaurants with a large, well-stocked pond. You can just go and order and eat, as usual, or you can get a bamboo rod and catch your own. Very cheap and fun, although definitely not "fishing" in the traditional sense.

Fish at such places are tra, the Vietnamese version of catfish. Pretty tasty when fried to a crisp.

Thanks UpScope - Sets my mind at rest. Don't want a full strip search and a 'tea money' situation, even before I meet the hords of taxis drivers waiting for fresh fish.

Thats good to know, toiyeuthitmeo. That was a bugger to type, where does that name come from?

Thanks for the fishing tips. I don't mind sitting at a stock pond but I suppose I might have to head off into the 'jungle' to find some decent fishing I guess.
