|

Hi Folks,
Although I said I would never do it....I am considering a job in the big city. I was hoping to get the opinions of some people who have worked and resided in mexico city. Is the cost of living much higher than anywhere else. After 2 years of avoiding D.F. (except for a couple of day trips) I would like to get the low-down on what would be considered a decent, relatively comfortable wage.
Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,
I am moving to Mexico City in two weeks and have a friend there, a long-time resident of Mexico. He just sent me some information that could help you decide what to do. Here are current cost-of-living amounts for Mexico City (in pesos):
Basic monthly phone bill: $180
Gas (per tank): $150
Electricity per month: less than $100
Water (bimonthly): $13
Comida corrida: $38 to $43
Subway ticket: $2
Microbus fare: $2.5 (along Reforma)
Taxis: $6 + mileage
Good luck!

A relatively decent, comfortable salary--depends on how you want to live. For me, a decent wage in Mexico is 10,000+ pesos AFTER TAXES (14,000 pesos gross salary.) I can save enough on that to make it worthwhile not to live in my town of choice.... |

Well, will keep watching this site to see what replies you revceive as I might have to do the same, that is to stay in the big city.
I had great plans of going to Guanajuato as I was offered a kind of job helping at a Spanish school, but that seems to have changed. I am very disappointed as now I have absolutely no idea where to go or what to do.
Well, good luck to you,
