Hello everyone!

I am a Canadian citizen but have a work permit for UK for 2 years.
Would that make it easier for me to find a job teaching English in Spain considering that I do not hold EU passport?

Any advice will be appreciated!

Thank you!

It's only good in the UK, I'm afraid. It won't help you in Spain.

I guess I will just have to wait for Croatia to enter EU since I also have Croatian citizenship. I might have to wait awhile Sad

Croatia's nice. While the teaching scene is tiny and not lucrative - have you given it a thought or a try?

I would love to teach in Croatia and I am actually going there in April to try my luck. I also spent some time in Barcelona last year and absolutely loved it so I was just giving it a thought.

Good luck in Croatia! I lived there for a short while back in 2003 and have had many fantastic holidays there. As I noted before, the teaching market is tiny, but you might be able to find something - it's certainly worth checking out:)

Luck is something that we all control and April is one of the worst times that you could go job hunting in Croatia or any European country for that matter. Europeans value their summers so teaching years by and large start around mid September and finish late May / mid June. It's unlikely that you'll get many people who want to start studying in April, the very time when the weather starts to pick up and people's minds start turning to sunny beaches.

Also regarding the Croatian citizenship giving you EU working rights, don't take that for granted. EU countries have the right to keep their labour markets closed to new member states for up to 7 years. Spain in the past was generally politically liberal on issues like that but with high unemployment now and the likelihood of the right wing Partido Popular winning next year's Spanish election it remains to be seen how they'd deal with the situation.

I am not planning on looking for a job in April. I have an apartment there so I am going to enjoy the summer and try to find something in September.
But thank you for the advice anyways!
