I hope this counts as "Job related". I am having difficulty finding solid details of school holidays in China. Is it usual for schools to be closed over Christmas? I would like to be able to return to the UK for a week or so. But I imagine that holidays outside of the school's timetabled ones are difficult.

International school close from Christmas through New Year but China public schools are running. Smaller private schools and agencies are all different but generally are open for Western holidays. If you really want Western holidays off go with an International school.

Check your Lunar calendar. Usually, at least the 3 years I have been here, Christmas is right before the run up to exams, then the long holiday.

At my school we can decide with our students if we want the day off, but would have to make it up on the weekend. Realistically, it is not a good time to go home. If you are able to put it off a few weeks, with a public school gig, you could go back home for a few weeks.

Probably won't happen, but you can go home for a long time in January or February, when the Chinese holiday is.

I hate to bring this up... but you do know that if Christmas is on a Sunday back there, it will be Monday here...more or less.
