As a result of the midday executions of a US customs agent on highway 57 in SLP earlier this week the state department has issued a no-travel warning for that state. This will not be good for SLP's economy. It is a state on the up, becoming an auto industry powerhouse over the last decade. According to CNN this morning, the FBI is in the state and is investigating the attack along with the army. SLP state officials have been frozen out of the investigation and are not happy about it.
Maybe these warning are a bit useless...dont drive in Guadalajara after dark, dont go to SLP, etc. Why not just put the classify the whole country as a no go zone? There are only 3 states which have not had any executions so far this year. Just yesterday the mayor of Ciudad Victoria urged his citizens to "remain calm, but try to avoid leaving their homes after dark". So these warnings are not just coming from uncle Sam. |

Don't go outside after dark...Becuase the govt. and police (even the Mex armed forces) can't keep you safe or the violence in check.
Seems like a good reason to freak out to me
On the current trajectory, all of Mexico will be a "no-go" zone by 2012 |

Yes, not really worth getting caught in the crossfire just to work in one of SLP's crappy language schools - just in case you were thinking about coming here anytime soon. |
