Ages ago (on the old forum) somebody once posted about a very nice hotel in HK that wouldn't break the bank. I took note.

I am shortly going to HK, but am (of course) unable to find the damn piece of paper I wrote it down on.

Can anybody remember it, by the tiniest chance?

Or, more practically, can anybody recommend a nice place? As in, not ChungKing Mansions?

Many thanks in advance.

(I will be duplicating this message on the "China" forum, as that was where the original post was)

I warmly recommend:
Danny Chan's home (14 rooms),
1-3, Cleveland St., Causeway Bay, between SOGO Department store
and Victoria Park; on route A/E 11 (to airport);
The rooms are complete with their own shower and WC, a separate telephone, TV and double bed or a single bed in the smallest room; aircon;
you can cook (microwave) and use a fridge;
Danny speaks a little English. Her guesthouse has no name but it is legit. I spent two years there.
Rooms are from around 200 a night to maybe double that. Monthly rates are discounted.

Danny's phone no.: 25 04 26 07

MTR (underground) station is Causeway Bay; from the Hunghom Railway station, take a cross-harbour tunnel bus to VICTORIA PARK.

Wang Fat Hostel in Causeway bay is also nice, as is Rent-A-Room HK in TST.

Much obliged both. I went with the Wang Fat in the end, as I couldn't get through on the phone to the other one. Very nice it was too.

I have a one-night stopover in HK, on my way to China in mid-June.

I was also wondering about hotels, but I'd definitely be looking for something near the airport, cause i gotta head out very early the next day.

Any thoughts?

I did a quick search for cheap ones. Ones that looked good to me were Panda hotel and the Wharney hotel.

Found a few more as well: http://www.accomline.com/SearchResults.asp?id=142&orderBy=Total%2CAvailability%2CRank%2CHotel

Thanks! Smile

aside from the Airport Regent, nothing is really *close* to the airport. If you are there for less than 6 hours, you can get a cheaper rate. Maybe barter with them when you arrive.

I have heard good things about the Panda, but can't comment on the other.

The Panda is huge, with a good pool, but it's in Tsuen Wan - a long way from HK proper - and it has tiny rooms. It may not help your situation, but anywhere that charges $1000 or up will provide a pretty excellent standard of rooms and service.
The Harbour City, Tin Shui Wai is also a long way from TST or the Island (an hour or more on the bus) but is nice and cheap - around $500 a night.

I've been looking around a fair bit since my last post.

These ones look pretty good/cheap:
The Pruton Prudential Hotel
Stanford Hillview Hotel
and there's also the Star Guest House, which is a bit more of a bidget choice.

anyone know any of these?
