I just received a contract from ChinaESL. Does this name alone raise a red flag?

Here are some of the strange conditions:

"Party B shall ONLY sign the contract with Party A if he/she wants to work for the company Party A introduced. If Party B works for the company without signing the contract with Party A, Party B shall pay Party A 20000 Yuan as penalty. Party A won�t give the deposit and the airfare to Party B."

I am not sure what this means. Has anyone seen something like this before?

Same here. Are they talking about getting a replacement teacher?

There's no mention of housing, and this is a Beijing job. So, I wonder why other teachers haven't taken the job if it is really good. "The period of service will be from Feb 17th 2011 to Feb 16th 2012."

So, it looks like they have been searching for a while to fill the spot.

Pass on this. It is in Chinglish and they will screw you. Schools that are universities and colleges are starting now, OR 5 days ago. They want you to sign a year contract. The ad is maybe an ongoing one and they didn't change to 2011 to 2012 ???

ChinaESL is not a regular recruiter. If you sign the contract you work for them, not the school. They design the contract so that you can never ever work directly for the school. Heavy penalties for you and the school and payoffs to administration to maintain this control. They provide no benefits other then a visa and the go through a third party agency to get that.

Also if you interview with someone through them you are barred form contacting the school on your own.

From my own past personal experience with them...pass on it.

Chinglish and open to interpretation. I�m not familiar with this outfit, but I�ve had experiences with "oddly worded" contracts and the employers have been amenable to my suggestions for changing them. Don�t be afraid to ask questions, don�t be afraid to make suggestions.
