Is it a viable option to do the DELTA in Mexico City rather in Europe considering all the accommodation/food /living costs?????????

I don't understand the poll question.

Is it worth it to do it in Mexico city, instead of in Europe--or is it worth it to do it at all? Where are you planning on working after you do or don't do the DELTA?

I think the DELTA is a good course. Personally, you can gain a lot from it. But professionally, for Mexico, it won't really get you a better job. There are some MAs in England that incorporate the DELTA into one of their modules for the MA. The DELTA is a very good practical teaching qualification, but not widely known in Mexico.

The British Council in Mexico City is the only place I've ever seen recognition of the DELTA. Melee, a mutual friend of ours got her DELTA in Colombia and was employed at the BC here in DF for awhile but now finds it is unknown in her native Australia. It does seem more widely known in Europe, so costs aside (if that was the actual question here), it is probably good to have there.

The DipTESOL is cheaper and can be done online. Doing the DELTA here is much more expensive and you'll need to pay for the course in pounds.

Great if you wind up in London one day and you need something to get by on while you're looking for temp work though.

I don't think either count towards a degree but I could be wrong. As both are not that well known, the only advantage of the DELTA would be that it has the magic word, 'Cambridge' on it - though it probably won't get you a higher salary anywhere as it's neither a degree or a masters.

It is my understanding the Delta does carry quite a bit of weight- just not in Mexico so much. For Europe, Asia and the Middle East though it can be a very important asset. Correct?

Yes, it's not a requirement for a coordination position here like it is in Europe. Only worth doing if you're heading back that way imo.

I was told the only place that offers the Delta is IH in Mexico City, and then it's not the three-month intensive course, it's the Distance Delta- which in the end is the same. The other kicker is it is only offered for IH employees. Don't take it as gospel though...

I heard today you can do it at IH Queretaro, might be worth looking into.

I must say I am surprised to read of someone reporting the DELTA being "unknown" in Australia. Could the friend be looking at ESL rather than EFL contexts?

CELTA has been offered in Australia for at least 20 years to my knowledge (back then via an affiliate of International House). DELTA courses are available in Australia, too. I'd expect this has been the case for some years now.

The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) web is wide and Australia is a Commonwealth country Smile.

I'd like to view the results of the poll but can't as I have no experience on which to base a vote Confused . Can anyone report?

Another tidbit- It is my understanding that the DELTA offered at IH Mexico City is currently being done in "trial" form with intentions of offering it to everyone next year.
