Does anybody know anything about this school? They have a couple ads up for ESL teachers on tefl.com and other job websites. I checked out their website and they look to be quite a professional, well organized business with schools in some good places (smaller cities on the northern part of the main island). The only thing I'm not too hot on is their dress code which is basically strict business suits. I suppose that's probably what I'm going to find most places in Japan, but they seem to be a little more strict about it than some others. But they seem to offer a good salary and good benefits. I checked the teaching journal thing on dave's and didn't see any comments about them, which I suppose could be a good thing since there tend to be a lot of very negative comments about schools there. So I guess I'm wondering if anybody out there has worked for or knows anybody who has worked for or has heard anything about this school. I'm looking for my first teaching job in Japan, and my first ESL job and really don't want to get screwed over. Any other recommendations for schools I might not have heard of would be great too.
thanks much,
andrea

I worked for JES.
They are a very professionally run school and they give you a lot of leeway as to how or what you teach.
The pay was always on time and they always paid overtime.
The head office is in Sendai and they have schools throughout the Tohoku area ( northern Japan ).
The other teachers & staff were very supportive.
I really don't have anything negative to say about them.Personally,I would recommend them over one of the bigger schools such as NOVA,GEOS or AEON.
Email me if you want more info.
I hope this helps. Cool

I know this is a really old thread, but I was just looking at JES' website, and I'm curious as to whether they actually make female teachers wear skirts. (It's not stated, but you could read it that way.)

I don't know, but I thought I'd point out that there is a picture of a woman in a pants suit on the very first page.

Hi, I seem to get the impression that they prefer men to wear white shirts (as opposed to blue, maroon, grey shirts)...
Is this a japanese thing?, ie: white is more neutral and less offensive than, say, maroon (red) shirts???

I think it just reflects the level of conservatism. For example, the US politicians very rarely wear shirts of any color besides white (light blue, maybe), because they are expected to dress very conservatively--or in other words, a couple generations behind the times.

I think all white shirts would be rather depressing, myself. Rolling Eyes But if that's what your employer wants...

At least you don't have to wear sock suspenders/garters! Laughing
