OK, so I added a sensationalist headline to grab your attention - It's not 'me' who needs to leave. Nevertheless, I am surprised I have not seen this subject regarding the evacuation of Libya and the plight of many hundreds of ex-pats from around the world as the headline on this forum.

Reading the Daily Mail as my weary head woke up this morning online, (a UK newspaper) it depicts how the British and American governments evacuation efforts are a complete shambles . Planes stuck on the runway; the Royal navy afraid to come ashore; the French having to hand out food to Brits'; oil workers fearing for their lives; Nick Clegg on holiday with his family; Dutch and German governments quick to act; hundreds of Brits left to fear for their lives.

Well, it is the media?

What is it really like out there, is it as manic as they say and if so, I hope everybody gets out ok.

well, it is pretty much a total mess. It's difficult to know who controls what and where.

I would strongly advise against coming here to see the sites right now.

He's in a corner which is NOT good. Clearly, individuals act more irrationally when they are pushed into a corner.

Especially when the person has never been noted for his rationality...

Actually, VS, I gave that part of the post some thought so I decided on inserting the word 'more' which would convey my message aptly. Wink

This is the dude who Anwar Sadat routinely referred to as "Al Majnun min Tarablus" (The Crazy From Tripoli)

Basil, are you headed out, or will you try to keep your head down and stick it out? Best of luck to you, whichever option you're pursuing - and do keep us posted when possible.

Stay safe if you are still in the country Basil...

I had to chuckle at Muamar's latest gambit... "Osama is behind all this" Rolling Eyes I think he is channeling the American Right Wing.

That's pretty much it. To think that G and US could be on the same side.

It's just b*llocks !

Still here in G territory. I just hope it washes over us. It's like a contagion moving from one city/town to the next with nothing much happening in the unpopulated areas between them. It's not like there are military or opposition convoys caravanning down the roads ...... at least not yet.

Joe,
I thought you had left LIBYA ages ago and back to sort out your old Triumph Herald in storage?
I am so glad I got my passport back from the Libyan Embassy before this slaughter of the Libyan people.

One sign of a nutter is someone Like Gadaffi who never made eye contact and just looked into empty space. I am sure there is a diagnosed disorder for that.

Joe,

If you are posting to me, I think you have me mistaken for someone else.

If not, I hope Joe gets back soon.

Joe must be the other Colchester United supporter. I've always wondered who he was.

The Bulgarians and the Bosnians have successfully evacuated their nationals form Libya. London with a government run by old Etonians seems to be incapable of doing the same for its nationals.

What WOULD Lord Palmerston make of all this ?

Colchester went down 2 - 1 to a 10-man Peterboro team.

Hope you're having better luck getting your rear out of Libya - but don't do anything rash. You're the man on the ground - often waiting is the best policy, but can be 'hell' to do.
Play the percentages. ...Be wise. Be safe.
Keep us posted.
