Meant to say, I do agree with Johnslat that the stuff Sheikher posted on Saudi labor law, while available to those who search, was a very useful item to make instantly accessible to users of this forum.

I hope that whatever happens with his situation, a solution is found that will be in everyone's interest.

He is not the first "Khawaja" to have been driven mad (or pushed over the edge) in KSA. In time he WILL be deported and returned to his native land.

Well, he hasn't committed any crime, and the Saudis most likely don't want him.

I'd say they're simply 'keeping an eye on him' until they can get his deportation order sorted. This means another week or two at most, maybe even a few days. How long has he been in there (this time)? Is he being treated OK in there?

Once the paperwork is sorted, it'll be 'Ma'asalamah'.

Yeah, as Scot says, it wouldn't be the first time the place got to someone, nor will it be the last.

Saudi really suits certain people, and doesn't agree with others.

Thank all of you for your sincere concern. I have sent URGENT Emails to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa and also to the Canadian mission in Riyadh pleading to GET HIM OUT OF THERE ASAP!! Before he does commit suicide, is killed or dies from stress!!

I was able to get him out in 1 day a few years back when I was in the KSA. But I am no longer there.

The latest info( March 3) I got is that he is still in the Al Hassa Psychiatric Hospital. I am not certain but I beleive he has been there since shortly after Christmas when I lost communication from him.

If some of you who read this are in Al Hassa it would be great to go and visit him and bring him some cigarettes.

I will keep you posted for any new information.

This is so sad. I hope that even someone who is within driving distance of Al Hassa will visit him to help or at least assess the situation to inform us all. We need to look after one another when in KSA, because we are helpless in the care of Saudi "authorities".

I agree with Scot. Isn't the embassy doing something, like sending someone to visit him on a regular basis? Al Hassa is just a few hours from Riyadh. Surely a weekly visit wouldn't be outside their abilities?

It looks like he was in there a few years ago? I would imagine that Saudi is not the best place for him.

I do think that the authorities are working to get a deportation order sorted. Maybe not with extreme urgency, but that is what they are most likely doing. It really does strike me that they won't release him this time until he leaves the country. This is what the embassy should be working on: pushing things so that the order (if there is one) is sorted out, and hastening his exit from KSA.

I hope he gets out soon, as I can't imagine being incarcerated there being much fun. Or being incarcerated anywhere for that matter. Please do keep us informed.

JUST RECEIVED THIS EMAIL ABOUT SHEIKHER

First thank you very much for your continued interest in Mr. James' Status. He is now at a governmental establishment called The Psychiatric Hospital in Hofuf. Hospital telephone number is+96635751111 then ext 311 and you can ask to talk to Mr. James from the answering secretary.
The point is it is not up to the hosbital to release Mr. James rather he was transferd to them by local police who were ordered by The Emmara (prince-hood if you like) and only by order from the office of the prince he can be released and we were told that such is being processed as the hospital is not against fast release of Dr. James for he is in no need of being there and the hospital is over filled with patients anyway.

Note : I am with my spouse daily following up if and when Mr. James is released.

Definitely sounds like he's being processed for the ol' DO (Deportation Order). This would be good, as it would mean being out pretty soon.

I hope that when he is released, he will get quietly on the plane, and forget about his labor-court matter. I also believe that he should give very serious thought to the matter before any return to the kingdom in the future.

Once deported he may find it difficult to get back to the Magic Kingdom.

Dear scot47,

Banished? But aren't you doing the self-banishing? And I don't think Uriel, the angel with the fiery sword, is barring re-entry Very Happy
