UAE is an option... Oman has the husband sponsorship thing... did we get an answer about Qatar? I know that QU accepts online degrees (at least I know people with full onlines who have had offers).

About three years ago, maybe four? I had a job offer from Oman. They said they could get my husband a visa, but then retracted it when they found out my husband's nationality
If you know abotu Qatar, let me know. I guess I'll have to be up front and say that my husband and kids will be my dependents. |

I would suggest that you go ahead and apply to QU and be open about the situation. See what happens. The worst they can do is say no.

Is the UAE my only option then? |
There's no harm in applying to Saudi universities. I really don't know which ministry does not recognise online degrees - or even if such a state of affairs is still true now. In any case, even if the ministry does not officially acknowledge such degrees, individual employers might be prepared to do so. Like someone else said on another thread, if the Embassy's job description does not specify an MA, it doesn't really matter if the Ministry recognises your degree or not. |

Nature Girl, sorry to have some depressing news but I think you mentioned that your husband's visa process in Oman was stopped once they learned his nationality?
Be aware that the Qatari MOI is being very selective as to who gets a visa (and it is based on nationality) - as your husband is not actually looking to work - at least so far as you've said - the point may be moot.
Friends at CNAQ say that new recruits have had their January start dates pushed back even further because of getting the paperwork done and approved.
Thought you should be aware of possible bumps in the road. |

I would hazard a guess that Qataris/Emiratis/Saudis administering at colleges may have HEARD of Brazil and Argentina but will have no idea of what or where PERU is ! |

Hopefully that'll work in my favour!

yep, Oman said no. My husband won't be working, just accompanying me. Thanks for the info. |

Online MAs will become increasingly accepted, for these reasons:
-They are becoming exponentially more common. You can't stop progress.
-It's becoming difficult or impossible to tell which degrees were completed online and which were not. The trend is for the university to make no mention of the "online" aspect on the diploma or transcripts. The programs are more marketable that way.
-Related to No. 1, more teachers are going to choose online programs because the cost of taking off work for a couple of years to do a degree in-person is too high. |

BUt you CAN if you look at their CVs. I'm getting one from Australia, but I live in Korea. |

Yes, but a person could omit a couple of years of work experience from the resume and bingo, the degree was done entirely in Australia. You quite enjoyed Sydney, Melbourne not so much, and wow, how about those kangaroos! |

I'm wary to get into lies. It would be simple for them to see that I had no OZ visas in my passport, and I'm sure they could check with the uni as well. |

Good for you! It's just those who counsel playing fast-n-loose with the truth that puts true academics under scrutiny.
Actually, you hit the nail on the head. The advice given to you was an out and out lie. |

Nope. Reread my post. It wasn't advice, and it wasn't a lie. I used the word "could," not "should." And I didn't say naturegirl123, I said "a person." I used the framework of her situation as an example of what a person could do. (I'm familiar enough with her from her posts over the years to know she would not go this route.)
And I made that point to support my contention that distance-learning degrees will become more widely accepted, in part because the employers will have no way of knowing what was done by distance-learning and what was not. Passport stamps? I lost my passport, so this one is brand new and has no stamps.
Bottom line: Higher education is nowadays bought and sold as a product, more so than ever. Universities are well aware that students like degrees that don't say "completed online." They will increasingly take steps to make it hard to tell.
What "should" any given person do? How would I know? It's not within the scope of my posts.
But thanks for the moralizing. Maybe work on your reading comprehension next time. |

I'd feel better if I were in the Middle East making about 70k/year with housing provided instead of sitting here telling other people what to do. Or what they could do. |
