|
|
I am interested in doing an MA in order to improve my qualifications and
have heard of three programs on offer. They are the following:
MA TESOL - American University of Sharjah
MA TESOL - Middlesex University Dubai Campus
MA Education with an English Teaching focus - British University of Dubai (done in partnership with the University of Birmingham).
I currently live about 90 minutes away from Dubai/Sharjah and would like to complete a course on a part time basis while I continue to work at the university I am presently teaching at. It is a long drive so two nights a week would be ideal.
Has anyone had any experience with any of these or other programs in the UAE? I would appreciate any information or advice with regards to this. |

I'd say that it depends on your nationality to an extent. If I were American (and perhaps Canadian), I would go with AUS. If I were not North American, I'd probably go with the British based programs. This is mainly because it matches the system that you are more used to.
Not knowing your preference, I'd just look at costs and which program fits best into your schedule.

AUS MA TESOL is a typically American 2-year program for more than 70 000 Dirhams
BUiD is just one-year programme for 40 000 Dirhams
Remember that both courses are accredited by the MOHESR https://www.caa.ae/caa/DesktopDefault.aspx
Balance and price it up and go for BUiD. |

The British University of Dubai MA program costs AED80 000 which is very pricy! Anyone know of a cheaper program you can do in Dubai or Sharjah? |

BUiD advertises its M. Ed with AED 80.000, but almost all students enrolled got a 40.000-scholarship. So, it comes down to only 40. |

The only problem is that I am not a UAE resident. I reside in Oman and as far as I know scholarships are not available to students who do not reside in the UAE. I live and hour and a half from Dubai so can easily drive through twice a week.
I could be wrong though.

Logistically, your idea does not seem viable. Perhaps if you happen to be working as a part-time adjunct at your job, you could return to your home country temporarily for your degree. I don't know what nationality you are but I did an MA in EFL and another M.S.Ed. for free with teaching assistantships in the U.S. |

Did you enroll in BUiD? If so, what was your experience like? |
