Dear Perilla,
Or, for that matter, Mexicans.
Regards,
John |

Most of them will be North American and thus tighter than a ducks arse. Plenty of good stories about North American teachers in Korea and their penny pinching ways! |
You mean Canucks, right? |
Some were Canadian and some were their bretheren south of the border - that's why I referred to them as 'North Americans'

Dear wiganer,
Ah, I apologize - it was that generalization about "North Americans" that misled me.
Regards,

With a handful of exceptions, weve established the moneys bad for Europes TEFLers. For balance, lets have some positives.
1. You can learn a useful language, e.g. French, Spanish or German.
2. I like football and English beer and have close friends in England. |
On the first not always. Latvian is useless. Yes it would be possible to learn Russian here but a lot of people much prefer to speak English with you, in some cases for nationalistic reasons.
On the second, while true across most of Europe, again not always true. Footy here comes a distant third after ice hockey and basketball. Average attendance in the Latvian highest league was 522 people, 45 people at one game was the lowest. It is actually one reason why I've often thought about leaving. I also love my footy and after living a 20 minute walk away from the Mestalla stadium in Valencia and being among a crowd of 60,000 watching top European sides play there in the latter stages of European competitions, it's a massive come down to be among a crowd of 300 watching unknown visiting Georgian/Macedonian sides in the second qualifying round of the Champions league in mid July. |

Im not being facetious, but for me TEFL anywhere in the world must have at least one of these:
Have fun or cultural experiences
Earn good money (save)
Learn a language/new skill (useful)
Youve not painted a fun picture of Latvia. Ive heard the women are very attractive. What else has it got? |
