Hi,

This school have place a number of adverts over the past few months. Does anyone have any information that a potential applicant might find useful? If you're able to share any recent experiences it would be greatly appreciated!
I tried the search function, but it only brought up previous job ads placed by the school.

Thanks in advance..

There is a poster here called Kev something-or-another who works there and seems to be deeply entrenched in the school's culture. And he defends it to the death.

Also, he seems to have some sort of management role at that school. A more in-depth online search will bring up more information.

I interviewed with them last month, along with visiting the school in person. I was not impressed and came away with no desire to work for them. There were many reasons for this.

My advice is to do a more comprehensive search. If you do, you will hear some interesting viewpoints.

Maybe Kev is right or maybe he is painting a rosy picture of the place. But I came away with a negative feeling.

Take that as you will ...

Very Happy Very Happy

What's funny is that poster has left, what, 17 messages in the past 6 years - - half of them telling us about crappy jobs s/he has just left. Also, as far as I know, there were no interviews conducted in February ("last month") on school grounds as most of the month was holiday-time and we all only got back near the very end of the month. Much too busy at that time for our interview coordinators to arrange on-campus visits w/interview. Tell me, "Plume", what was the name of your interviewer? Maybe I can look into it.

Can you throw us a bone here? Maybe the OP would like more specifics. Also, for which department/position were you interviewing? We have several scattered around our immense school. I'll bet the department heads would be curious as to your disappointments. Right now the school has about 25 foreign teachers all firmly ensconced in their jobs, so I wasn't even aware the school was actively interviewing last month, but maybe they were. I'm not made privy to all the goings-on. Maybe your interviewer decided to cut his/her holiday short because the school was desperate for a new teacher. Wait, that's not right as all the positions are now and were then currently filled. Maybe it was for the 2011-2012 school year?

Anyway, any more relevant, specific information you could post here would certainly help the OP I'd guess. Thanks so much for your input.

Thanks for taking the time to post. It's always good to get two sides of the argument!
The guy I dealt with, albeit briefly, repsonded quickly to emails, seemed keen and then communication ended abruptly. I guess they found someone else to do the job. I'm not in China now and I wouldn't have been able to start until September. By finding someone already in China, the school would have saved a lot of money on airfare, I understand that.
No hard feelings from my side.

The school is hiring for September. Perhaps a reminder email could be helpful if you are still interested.
