|
|
I'm about to tangle with this one for the first time. Does anyone know how flexible my school is required to be, according to contracts, or what sort of arrangements have been made in the past?
I'm a kiwi and entitled to fares home and back for my family. What I want to know is if I can travel elsewhere and be reimbursed, if I have to spend up to the amount of the NZ fares (can I pocket the change?) and if I have to provide quotes/receipts etc to be reimbursed for what I spend.
My boss is a reasonable fellow, but this definitely seems like one of those "slightly out of the ordinary and therefore may end in tears of frustration and rage" type dealies, so I'm after any info I can get to help out.
Thanks in advance. |

Mid contract??
You mean you have finished one year of your two year contract...if so...then you are not entitled to have your airfare paid for...
If you are finished and re-signing or ending your contract then you are entitled.
You will be reimbursed the cost of a ticket back to your home country (if this is the end) or a return ticket (if you are re-signing)...so you can choose to go somewhere else..if the ticket is more...you pay...if it less...then nothing...you don't get the extra..
A friend of mine used her money to take advantage of Cathy's two long and two short hauls...the school paid about 10K and she paid the rest...
You do have to show that you used the tickets...if you are re-signing then usually you have to show the used ticket and the boarding pass...i don' t know what you do if you are leaving for good...i will find out as i am leaving this year... |

Of course - between contracts. Kind of feels like it's in the middle of things though. Thanks for the info. |

When I was between contracts, I claimed a flight to South Africa which was to visit my mother instead of going back to the UK.
If you provide a supporting letter, then it should be OK.
If you change schools, then you'll have to claim your flight out at one school and your return flight at your new school. |

What I really want to do is use the value of the trip home to go somewhere closer and live it up a bit (home is NZ). I want to find a travel agent who'll give me a quote and invoice for "America package 3" or somesuch which will include car rental and accomodation and the like as well. If the EMB will pay me up to the value of a trip 'home' and I spend that travelling elsewhere, should be OK. If you know different, let me know... |

In case anyone else is in the same situation, I have sorted it here so that I will receive the amount of the fares home, in cash, in Early July. I will then use this to travel somewhere. I do not need to provide tickets but do need to provide quotes so that the amount I'll be given can be determined. |
