Good evening everyone, I've recently been asking for and received very good quiries about EFL positions in Turkey, mainly involving language schools. Last night, I searched for universities in Turkey via Google and with my desiring to live and work in Itanbul, I've found 29 universities.
Now my question is: which one of these 29 universities would be a better place for me to continue my EFL career? Specifically, will I do better working in the State universities or the private ones?
My qualifications are on one of my previous posts. Any feedback will be great so as to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Cheers.

Sorry man, but you're asking for advice, and then you're asking us to search through your previous posts for your quals? Don't you think that's a bit much?

Why don't you repost your quals here and then tell us more specifically what a good university means to you? Money? Professional Development Options? Few hours? Lots of holiday? Prestige? In the center?

OK, here are my qualifications: I've been teaching EFL for over one year now, primarily with young learners, although I've had some teaching experience with adults. I have a four-year uni degree and TESOL certificate. I would to find a university that has a well organised, professional English programme in which the students are very interested in improving their English language skills for the global job market.

Now I know that comparing language centres with universities is like comparing apples with oranges, but I hope that I would be more of a teacher than a babysitter(which is the case with me right now here in Nam). But with the older ages of the uni students, I don't think that will be the case.

Clifton, I hate to disappoint, but it's not likely that you're going to find a university in Istanbul that has both those conditions and that student profile. Either you'll have a university that has few resources, little efficient organization and offers a very small salary (public uni) or one that has great resources, gives a good salary and takes everything very seriously, but has childish, immature students (private).

Or some are just the worst of both worlds.

The only exception to this that I have seen is new universities, who often have good student profiles (because they give scholarships) and good resources. You could try one of those. Both Şehir University and Acıbadem Universities may fall into that category (though I don't know if Acıbadem is open yet...)

Uni students acting like kids from some of my classes? Oh my goodness! Anyways, thanks for the info coffeespoonman. Sehir University was listed in my search for IST-based unis, but Acibadem wasn't. I'll take a look at Sehir. Cheers.

Im an Art Teacher in Washington, D.C., I've been an art teacher for 12 years. I have a great resume (CV). I plan to get my TEFL, TESOL, TESL from Oxford Seminars next month. Except I dont have my Masters! Im visiting Istanbul on April 15th thru the 25th. To see my girlfriend who is TURKISH, who is a English teacher at a middle school in Istanbul..(we met in London). We want to get married! (We skype daily)
I need advice, I need help. I need to meet coffeespoonman!!!! I want to move to Istanbul permanently! But, I need a JOB! I want good money, but I will pay my dues first if I have to. I know after reading the posts I still need some help..Have I missed the boat for next Fall already? Im ready to move first of July. I just need someone with an inside connection. There is something to be said for public jobs at universities as well. I work publicly, it keeps me legal and I have enough time to do other things.
